Norwegian Tartans??
In my "Hey, I'm a Newbie" thread, I mentioned that my strongest family line was Norwegian. Someone brought up the fact that the Sinclairs were closely tied to Norway and I could wear one of their tartans probably. I looked at them and they're really nice looking.
Then I discovered something I didn't expect. There are actually tartans that were being made in Norway. Whodathunk? Some tartans have possible ties to Scottish tartans and some are completely unknown in their origin.
My question is, once you've found some possible tartans, how do you folk go about choosing which you would like to wear? And once you do, how in the heck to you find the fabric?
Here are a few links to the tartans I found:
Gudbrandsdalen Rondastakken District Tartan
Gudbrandsdalen Mannsdrakt District Tartan

Here it is, a bit larger

Norwegian Tartans...
I would contact the Scottish Tartans Authority and see if they have any contacts for anyone producing these Norwegian tartans -- I imagine you would have to buy a whole bolt, or see if the local Sons of Norway or Scandianavian Society would go in with you -- bolts of tartan are expensive!

Ok Living in Norway I can say that the Tartans shown here are part of the regional costume for Guldbrandsdal. These are usually hand made (Tailored) locally to that area in Norway. Some are available nationaly. The material is bought as a kind of kit to make up a "Bunad" (Costume) I think it might, Given the large Norwegian population in the US to get it over there.

Joel,
Not only does Norway have a Gudbrandsdalen tartan, but the Romsdal tartan. They are both from the same time frame in the 1600's When the Scottish mercenaries landed on the west coast of Norway to join the Swedish Army, but unfortunately met their demise. The battle was an inspiration for one of Edvard Grieg's suites.
