    I did finally hear the bats. It's a very high pitch sound (most of it probably beyond what I can hear), and fairly quiet. There's lots of crickets out there, and they are louder than the bats.
    I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

    Yeah, its funny, I have a wee bit of hearing loss from my days in a hard rock / metal band, but I can always pick up on when a bat is near.
