I agree with the others about "no age limit" on tweed that I'm aware of....
Now, on the hose: I agree that the black hose does not cut it with the tweed. With Ancient kilt colors you should go with either Lovat Blue or Lovat Green. Did you say the tweed is grey?
Try the Lewis Hose on the Scottish Tartan Museum Gift Shop. You might be able to match the hose to your tweed.
