That's great that people were wearing them, but seriously... If you're going to wear something like that, do your research and make an attempt at geting it right! I go to the Rennaissance Festival here and just want to go to people and say "Would you like me to show you how to pleat that?" I once asked a guy what tartan he was wearing and got the response- "8 yarder." What clan is that? MacEightyard? I said "No, no- not the yardage- the tartan." He looked at me with this blank look and said "I don't know- what's yours?" I was wearing my USAK Clergy semitrad, and told him as much, said that whatever one he was wearing was a nice, and walked away- wishing that I had asked him if I could show him how to pleat and belt the thing! It had no pleats and was wrapped around him about 5 times. Ah well...

Nighthawk- That was pretty much the case at DragonCon, too- The fellows I saw in 'great kilts' just had whatever tartan tablecloth was handy wrapped around them like a sari. A little effort would have yielded much better results.
They were in the minority, though. Most were UKs or similar, worn with varying degrees of confidence. Some looked good, some didn't.
Most folks in trads or semi-trads actually knew how to wear the kilt, and it looked good- see the pic a few posts above!

I too was at Dragon*Con and rocked my USAKilts Leatherneck Tartan kilt on several of the nights, complete with USMC t-shirts, etc. I was blown away by how many kilts I saw, and I'll tell you something... I have 2 converted friends to back up my point about "Kilts are awesome, man... see? There... and there... and there..."
The KTB are very cool and in their own way promote the kilt, as I was with several groups of people while I was wearing mine who said they liked the look, and would have never really thought about it seriously until seeing them on folks like the KTB (who really do look very cool) and others like myself, who were wearing them as regular clothing.
Good times all around.

There were too few kilties at FurtherConfusion 2009. I think there were maybe less than a dozen total by my faltering count. I think DragonCon has us covered big time.
There was one gal wearing a black Utilikilt that seemed to have been packed in a shoebox for the trip to the con. It was soooo horrid I wanted to press it with her wearing it! Gah! She wore it all four days that I know of.
If anyone saw what I wore to the Burns Supper this year (2009), that was one outfit I wore at the con. That turned a number of heads and scored quite a few comments, all positive.

The Star Fleet uniform shirt with a kilt has precedence in the movies. Strictly, it should be a dress tunic cut short like a Prince Charlie. Hmm.... you've given me an idea.....

This may surprise you all. Here's a picture of me at DragonCon in 2000 (I flew all the way from South Africa to do this gig, although as an Atlanta native-Dragon Con was a yearly event for geeks and all!). I'm not kilted, but I am wearing a unbifurcated garment. The picture will spawn many questions-Bagpiping has lead me to the serious study of most drone based music. Click the link below for the pic-

That reminds me of something my girlfriend would say...when asked by her Dad what sort of car she wanted, her reply was "a red one!" (Tho when she says that sort of thing, she's usually doing it to get a rise out of someone )

One of my college roommates just couldn't grasp that answering "blue" to "what kind of car is it?" isn't really a good answer. He really just didn't get that there were differences beyond color....
