    Young Pipers and Old Whiskies

One of my favourite activities on a warm sunny day is to have a seat by the Horse in Hawick, listening to good Scottish music wafting through the still air from the bandstand across the street at Trinity Gardens, while sipping on a cafe latte from Turnbulls Coffee Shop.

Turning the camera the other way, Clarty Cloot Ceilidh Band were performing live here this morning.

A small selection from the whiskies on display in Turnbull's Coffee Shop.

Later I fetched Ann out to listen to the music

The accordionist performed a good rendition of Bonnie Galloway and The Rowan Tree.

Today was the Saturday of Hawick Buskers Festival and also Hawick Walking Festival and Hawick Scout Fellowship had mustered fourteen of their youngest members to provide the pipe band performances, the oldest member of the band today is the Drum Major who is probably still in his teens.

The band play in the High Street

I must be growing older, either that or the pipers are getting younger

The pipers may be tiny but they certainly have good lungs, this young lass was playing an excellent rendition of Scotland the Brave.
I will try to post a couple of links to video of the band in action, but bear in mind they sound much better live than they do on a recording by a compact digital camera.

They are, and that's fantastic! That actually means there will still be talented and skillful pipers for many years to come!

If only the same were true for kiltmakers...

Thanks for the lovely photos, I'll have to come over and see your town and taste the whiskies!

Looks like a beautiful day Alex. It's good to see Ann out enjoying the music.

You are so lucky to have it all on your doorstep. Since the Hawick Games I have been looking forward to my next 'fix' of Scotland.

    Thanks for posting Alex.

    Regards

I know that place! Though there are a few more people outside than when I strolled by the first two times.

Alex, its grand seeing your photographs with shots of places I've been or people I've seen.

    Thanks.
