Once again I must point out that MOST of the sporrans I have shown are not military sporrans. It is quite possible that Lord Caithness served in the RHR, but I'm not sure.

There is no mention of Caithness having served although it would seem likely, given his father's military service in Scotland (I believe he ended his military career as Deputy Commander, the Gordon Highlanders, 1958-65.) He may have been in the TAs, or possibly took a short service commission after finishing his university studies. Not that it really matters all that much-- none of his friends would be all that concerned about the lineage of Caithness's sporran.
