I'm not M of R, but... do you mean a "regulation doublet" rather than a "regulation jabot"? I think the Glenfinnan shoes would be appropriate with the reg. doublet, and one could wear a jabot as well. They aren't really "regulation", though!

I think evening dress requires evening shoes, either the buckle and strap shoe, or a pump of some sort, buckled or not. You could wear brogues if they are thin soled and more "streamlined" in shape, instead of heavy clodhoppers with running boards.
IMHO.

Damn, but that's funny! Nothing better to end the evening than a good armagnac, a good cigar, and a good laugh.

Yes I agree. I might add that almost anything, even "clodhoppers", are better than those dreadful ghillie things.

With day wear I usually wear my Dr. Marten brogues which in the catalog is surprisingly called the "Saxon" model.

Er... I thought a jabot was a lacy neck tie...

I've always thought that ghillie brogues are for pipers. Not that I mind other people wearing them, they just don't feel right on my feet. For formal wear (black tie upwards) I prefer a buckled pump, but I've never been that formal in a kilt.
But if I get the general message, I can wear my usual formal shoes with my formal kilt outfit. Right?

Absolutely, your "normal" formal wear shoes should be fine.
