Question FSA SCOTT? ... A Dumb Question gone unasked too long.

Not sure where this belongs so I am sure the MOD Squad can move it if needed.

For some time, I have noticed the addition of FSA SCOTT behind names here in the forum and elsewhere within the Celtic community. Even a quick Google search telle me nothing about that the letters mean.

Please forgive my ignorance. I am certain the letters are put there to designate a certification, membership or something. I just have no clue as tho the exact designation. (Thus rendering the appellation meaningless... to me.)

Perhaps I am not the only one in class with the question. But my father told me the only foolish question was the one I foolishly failed to ask.

FSA Scot. (one 't') denotes a member of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland:

The postnomials FSA Scot (one "t") means that the bearer is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquitaries of Scotland:

Mods, this thread might be better suited in the heraldry & tartans thread, since it is a question regarding postnomials.

    Regards,

    Todd

It stands for "Fellow of the Society of Antiquities-Scotland", or something to that effect. It's people who have studied Scottish history and are experts thereon.

I'm not part of that society, by the way.
