Wonderful tartan. Do the colors you selected have special meanings?

My grandfather was an avid Civil War historian and our family's leading genealogist. I wanted to design a tartan that spoke to his love of history and our family's past.

I designed the tartan with specific meaning behind each color. The Blue and Grey represent the fact that my family served on both sides of the US Civil War. I made sure that both colors touched as well as overlapped.

The Green is for the mountains of West Virginia where my family first settled and for the mountains of North Carolina that my grandfather and the rest of our family love so well.

The Red is for the long line (at least on in each generation) of those in our family called to military service. I made sure it ran along side of the Blue and Grey.

The White line if for the many family ancestors and current members who have devoted their lives to public and/or religious service.

Finally, the Purple line is for the Lavendar that my late grandmother always planted by her door and brought into the house in dried bunches. When I smell lavendar I always think of her.
