I agree on the acrylic for the most part, except it they do kind of have a sweatery feel to them that would be nice if they were a heavier/tighter weave.
As far as traditionalizing a Stillwater wool kilt, it really does make a big difference to get rid of all that bulk above the fell, and to adjust or give it a rise.
That is an issue with the acrylic standard, too. It is going to have the pillow butt, and the very top of the kilt, around the back and sides, is where the squeeze will be. On a traditional, it is a few inches down from the top. It might cause the kilt to slide down to where the top is at the natural waist etc...
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
