I spend a lot of time watching videos of the pro throwers and the best women. "Women" man the Hobsons, Adriane B., Summer P. and Mindy P. The women are good to watch because they're so freaking athletic...it's why I spend a lot of time staring at Harrison Beily III
I noticed something the other day. In all the pics I'd seen of Summer and Adriane, and also Kerry Overfeldt, as they were moving into the second turn of the LWFD, they were leading with their heads. 'allo???
So I tried it. In the first turn you cast easy, but high, and reverse your feet to get into the power position. I've always been a little slow in my second turn. However, this afternoon I made sure that I lead with my head...look-go-throw...in the second half of the second turn. This increases my acceleration through the second turn and miracle of miracles, I'm finally AHEAD of the bluidy weight. There's a bit of a "sling" leading up to the release. Also, I'm finishing up in C position, well opened up with the hips out front...perfect.
I'm also, at least for now, throwing THOUGH the throw, not just up to the release. I think this is good, but not everybody does this. You sure do it in shot and discus, though.
All from staring at pictures.
