Deepest Sympathies and my thoughts and prayers for you and your family. I lost my father four years ago this past week and it still hurts.

Thought of you and your Da

While in my deer stand in Northern Minnesota last weekend I had some time to reflect. My Pops passed eight years ago at the young age of 81. I was thinking of him and you and your Da took over my thoughts. Before I knew it I was weeping a bit for your Da. That generation of men knew what it was like to work hard and live without frills and provide for the family. My thoughts will be of you, your Da and my Pops throughout the holidays. Here's one holiday cheer for them Sláinte!

My condolences. It sounds like he had a good long run, a gentle transition and has left a good man to carry on behind.

You may find, as I did, that those close to you may be nearer in death than they were in life. Odd that.

Could someone closer to their Scottish heritage describe what was done traditionally in Scotland upon a death? I have seen many a grave stone there, but wonder what might have been the marker in the 1600's or 1700's?

Perhaps you could plant a tree that is special to the time of year of his birthday, or build a small cairn with rocks from places he lived? I would like to plant a mountain ash (rowan) for my own father who passed several years back.

Thank yo me friend for the kindness and consideration. A while back I planted several trees in Scotland and have dedicatged them all to him and his long life.

I'm not much of a drinker but I will join you in a wee one to both our da's in rememberence of their long an joyful lives. Slainte
