The only time I wear my sgain dubh is for real dress affairs where all others would be kilted and understand the reason for wearing a "weapon". I will not be wearing it to the company christmas party because there will be morons. Out of sight, out of mind.

Sorry if I highjacked this thread.
Black tie is pretty standard fare on New Years Eve. Wear the PC.

Thanks, I kind of guessed that. Didn't seem to smart to carry what could potentially be considered a weapon on the streets of NOLA.

    Hi!

I agree with the general perception of the thread that a PC would be just fine. Also, New Year's Eve is, at least by my standards, a night to dress up rather than dress down. It's the one chance of the year to really wear what ever you'd like in whichever formal form you prefer. (It should, for perspectives sake, be noted that my family has been known to wear white tie in our mountain cabin on this festive day.)

Is'nt this just another way of saying "I need an argyle jacket, but I just don't know it yet"?

This would be a perfect excuse to buy one, especially since you probably will wear it a lot more than the PC.

Drac, for New Year's Eve, black tie and pc are not overkill.

The only time I've not worn a sgian dubh has been on those rare occasions when I forgot to pack it with my kilt. Never once had a problem over wearing it.

To the OP, in all honesty, if you have any reservations or suspect that others will, go with nothing at all...or better yet, stick a nice folding bottle opener down your sock. It is New Years' Eve, after all!

I was regretting not doing this myself last Saturday...we arrived, and my g/f went to get a glass of wine and found an unopened bottle w/o an opener handy. Had I thought of it beforehand...oh well.

There are several simple ways to open a wine bottle without a corkscrew. see UTUBE.
