I didn't read the whole ad, but I will point out that sexist and inane are not synonyms. On the other hand, Dockers and inane may be...

'Desperate times call for desperate measures'...I guess with revenues falling the high foreheads in the marketing department thought they had a winner here....time will tell. I've always been of the opinion that a company that makes stupid ads is probably not bright enough to make a product I'd want to buy.

Could it be that they are selling controversy, and therefore discussion, and therfore remembrance of their product? How many commercials do you see and have no idea what they're trying to sell, but you do remember the celebrity or jingle or some other part of the commercial? This looks like pretty smart marketing to me, because it makes the reader remember the product.

I'd say you got it. Us old PR guys know that there is no such thing as bad publicity, unless it was a major disaster. People remember you, talk about you, get their danders up about you, and defend you to their friends.

Doesn't make me want to rush out and buy a pair of Dockers, however.

    Oh, I don't know. . . .

Why, just the other day, I was asking myself, "How am I going to butch things up around here?"

    You know what decided?
