Well said. An all together excellent post, Lethearen.

I wholeheartedly agree.
Way better than my curmudgeonly response.

Why?
Because I damn well feel like it and for no other reason.

After I got it and tried it on, I found I really enjoyed it. It was bespoke, so it fit perfectly, unlike any trousers I've ever owned, custom or not. It was very comfortable because it was unrestrictive, both at the waist and in the naughty bits. And I think that the kilt is just flat-out a great looking garment that accentuates a manly build. So much modern clothing tries to make men look boxy. The kilt shows off that men have a shape. Broadens the shoulds, narrows the waist, stoutens the legs. Ok, stouten isn't a word, but you get the point.
I bolded the part of your reply that I wanted to expand upon. That is an excellent point, and one that I failed to mention before.
Pants, when worn around the hips or belly, are extremely uncomfortable to me. Especially after a big meal! All your digestive equipment is being uncomfortably squeezed by the belt. With a kilt, worn up at the natural waist, it's not squeezing your stomach or intestines. I find that much more comfortable. And my hips feel free. The only thing I could imagine being more comfortable is wearing a toga or some other type of garment that hangs from the shoulder, leaving the entire torso unrestricted. But the kilt is leaps and bounds more comfortable around the midsection than pants, simply due to where it's worn.
And yes, the kilt definitely improves the male figure! Pants worn at the hips do nothing but accentuate a man's love handles and stomach. The kilt really sets off the shoulders and makes the hip area look slimmer. That's probably the thing I love most about wearing a kilt.
When you try to get the same effect by wearing pants up at the waist, it just looks ...stupid.

Ah! It is all in the eye of the curmudgeon.

Don't be hard on yourself, Rex. Your post said exactly what I was thinking at the time (and far better than I could say it), before Steve chimed in to explain our OP.
Yours in curmudegeonhood,

Though I was born and raised in California, my family is a sept of the Fraser clan. I was enamored with the Scottish culture so I bought an Amerikilt. I liked it very much so I got a Black Watch Kilt and then one in the Fraser Modern tartan.
I like the way it looks, I like the way it feels and I like the attention it gets.
And, as another poster said: "the women at work never complimented my pants."

Letheren - Agreed, and my apologies to the OP. It's so hard to grasp meaning behind words that are only typed. Like most who have been part of message boards in the past, I found myself applying formulas to the OP to determine him a troll instead of being a gentleman and trying to understand what the questions at hand were. So again, my sincerest apologies to the OP and I certainly hope none of the more curmudgeonly of us haven't dissuaded him from investigating further. It was an honest question and as such, I will answer:
I don't have a kilt yet so, I'm not altogether qualified BUT I will say I am attracted to kiltwearing due to the aforementioned comfort, sense of 'different' (some would call 'odd') style, and because I simply like the look. All of this was inspired because of my discovery of a Scottish family heritage in the MacNaughton clan and a trip to Scotland where the MacNaughtons last lived. I was so moved by visiting these sights and felt such an affinity with the beauty of that area of Scotland (heck, ALL of Scotland!) that I wanted to connect in some way. Thus the desire for a kilt in the MacNaughton tartan......that I haven't gotten yet but am hoping that Santa will deliver post-haste!
Hope that (finally) answers your question!
Cheers!

You wear the kilt because you can! LOL!! Actually, I wear mine to celebrate my Celtic heritage, even though I'm Irish. Seems like more and more Irish are getting into the kilt scene, as are many from the other Celtic nations. On top of that, it's just cool being different. I wore mine to school yesterday and the 7th graders loved it. Oh, and the females made awesome comments. If nothing else, wear it for the ladies!!!

That I do not believe for an instant. You're brave enough to take on any and all of us here, as you regularly do. Clearly a kiltie to the core.
