Off topic, so please don't let me hijack the thread... I was at a storefront of one of the main tartan weavers in a somewhat remote part of Scotland this summer and asked for "McBain" tartan. The attendant, who did not seem to have a local accent (or maybe not a Scottish accent at all), counterposed before offering to help, "We say 'MacBean' here". I was quite taken aback that the person thought they should corect my pronounciation of my own clan name (in addition to being arguably wrong). It bugged me and still does, just as it would for an attendant to argue my choice of kilt length. I guess it must be hard to deal with tourist influxes.
