It looks like I'll have to jump over a flaming pit late in the race...not a huge jump (over or high). The mud and water obstacles are the two making me rethink the kilt. But, with underarmour compression shorts, I should be alright. Of course then there is the extra weight of a wet kilt v. shorts. Maybe I'll get the kilt, soak it and go for a run.

I'm all for choice. Men should be able to wear a kilt without being questioned about it.

But we do want choice, right? There's nothing wrong with wearing a bifurcated garment, is there? I'd be wearing shorts that won't get hooked up on anything and are cheap enough not to be worried about.

Edit: just edited out "when the occasion calls for" a bifurcated garment. Just as with a kilt, we should need no justification for wearing a bifurcated garment.

Go for a PV kilt. Stillwater kilts are great, but not so great for hiking. They are a looser weave than wool, and snag on stuff. ( been there, done that)
We go hiking alot, so any runs through the woods will ruin the kilt.
Go with a PV or a canvas one.

    Just my 2 cents

Canvas would be good, PV not so much. Remember, he has to jump a fire in there somewhere

Well, if your feet can clear the fire, so can the kilt. It may develop some shiny places where it gets hotter, but I doubt it will melt.

Have you considered SportKilt? It seems a natural fit, since they design their product for sport use....
