Doing the Warrior Challenge--want to do it in a kilt!
The warrior challenge is a 3.5 mile obstacle course that has wind, mud and water. So, I want to do this kilted. I'm not wearing the kilt I have. And, I've looked at the sports kilts. Not a bad idea. But, how are the PV kilts? I would like something a little heavier--not because I want to run with something heavy, but, because I want something that won't fly up. Any suggestions/preferences?

Try the least expensive kilt from SWK. They're very inexpensive, you can't hurt them, but I think they'll stay down. (Wear some underarmor anyway! Trust me on this one.)
Once it's wet, you will not want anything heavy on your body.

with what you're describing, I'd almost think you'd be better off going with a Utilikilt with the "modesty snaps"...
Of course this, coming from the guy who wore a UK (no snaps) to play capture the flag against a sorority (and ended up with a broken collarbone)...

I would highly recommend against wearing a kilt for an obstacle course. There are just some activities that require more protection for your legs than a kilt affords. Between rope swings and climbs, confidence climbs, walls with splintery tops, and of course, the "weaver", you'll be glad to have the extra protection.

Strings--those girls can be aggressive!
The race isn't really sa confidence course style race--it's more of a run in the woods with water, hills, mud and a fire jump.
I thought about a utilikilt and ruled it out due to a desire to wear plaid/tartan. Also, I don't want pockets that might pickup mud and weigh me down. I'll check out the SWK kilts--is that Stillwater?

Yes, SWK stands for Stillwater.

I agree with the SWK economy... It's cheap, and tartan. The USAKilts casuals are pv and in tartan... A wash and wear kilt.. Then you have the kilts made by other members of the forum, that might fit your requirements, while being affordable.

If it's the same Warrior Challenge I signed up for last year, there are open flames along at least part of the course. Maybe not the best environment for a PV kilt.
I also remember lots of mud; I just don't see a kilt being a good idea there.

Be aware that acrylic (SWK) and pv (USAK) will melt if the material comes in contact with open flames.

I had thought about the open flames problem, which is why I didn't suggest one of the acrylic or PV kilts.
A UK survival kilt would be my first choice. Unfortunately, not "cheap". The rest of the line would work too: with the pockets snapped, there wouldn't be much mud getting in there...
