Well, I'm sure glad I don't live in Auckland. Anyway, it gets hot enough here in Christchurch.

With my bandy legs I think that if I can't wear my hose pulled up, I'm better not to wear a kilt at all. For the same reason, I very rarely wear shorts. :-)

I wear my kilt and hose in summer and it's not too bad. Sure the ankles get a little sweaty (wear hose scrunched down), and the waist where the kilt is sitting gets a wee bit wet, but it's a darn sight better than wearing jeans or trousers which just end up clinging to me like glad-wrap.

I also wear the kilt with my ankle sports sock and converse all stars and that works quiet well.

This is how I'd often wear the kilt casually (minus the jacket in summer):

The pic was taken at my farm in NW Tasmania in summer (not too hot) but the only difference to this outfit, when worn in Sydney, is the lack of jacket and a casual sporran instead of the semi-dress one above.
freakin 39 degrees when i was in sydney in dec...terrible....

Is that a woolen kilt Scotty?

You do look good, Scottography, but maybe you should try baggier trousers in a lighter weight material. Although I can barely comprehend the heat you must have to put up with in Tasmania (scratch that - Australia (I miss-read that part of your post)).

Something else I would like to add - why does anyone wear jeans? They are the single most uncomfortable item of clothing I have worn.

38 Celsius here today. Supposed to be 41 on Monday. I had to make myself a wool kilt (it's bright fricking red... Not sure yet about what to wear on the top half) to deal with the heat.

I have 2 leather ones I mostly wear and a denim KLO (kilt-like-object) that I'll moisten in the shower in the extreme heat but I needed something to wear out of the house.

3.6m 8Oz 100% wool box-pleat is the ultimate in all-weather wear. Warm enough for 5C and cool enough for 40C.

Still, I think this kind of heat is completely uncivilised.

Staying moist all day and plonking yourself in front of a fan is not what I would call sophisticated.

I dig winter. Although I'm not sure I'd say the same if I was in the UK right now :-)
