Have you tried looking for a maker's website to send them an enquiry, or just Googled the make and model with 'musty smell' to see if it has been remarked on on line anywhere?

Yes, I've emailed them but haven't heard. I've googled also.
mildew builds up on the rubber gasket between the door and the drum.
I wipe it out
leaving the door open after each wash
I leave the door open and the soap tray.
I actually think it's a frozen vent pipe from the long term deep freeze we've been having, and I'm smelling odors from the drain. I think I could actually see some ice or frost on top of one of my vent pipes this morning.
I'll f/u in a few days when we finally warm up above freezing.

Musty odor in washer
Musty odor is from water trapped in the rubber seal around the front door opening. Maytag has solved this problem with a kit that installs a seal with a drain hole and hose so no water is trapped. I don't know about other manufacturers but some may have a kit that should be installed for free to take care of the problem. Don't wait for them to answer you, persistence and determination must be your mantra with them to get this issue corrected.
Good luck
