Brian Cox can do a decent, generalized American accent. But, Gerard Butler definitely cannot - it hurts my ears to listen to him attempt it. But, American women don't care.

Seeing the character of Jamie mentioned in the Dr Who thread reminded me that Fraser Hines did a very good Yorkshire accent for years in the UK TV soap Emmerdale Farm.

About Scottish accents, how was the woman on Extras?
On Hamish MacBeth, were the actors actually Scottish? I seem to recall that one woman also plays "moaning Myrtle" in the Harry Potter films.
About Yorkshire accents, I've often heard Brassed Off cited as an example of bad Yorkshire accents. Ewan MacGregor is Scottish, is he not?
But what about Peter Postlethwaite? His name sure sounds like a Yorkshire name.
Also the husband in Calendar Girls used "summat" and "nowt".

Yes I thought she sounded like she was doing a Glaswegian accent. But then again, I have no idea what an Annan accent sounds like!
Anyhow I'm glad they had a Scot play a Scot for once.
