Kiltmaker fends off 'kings of tartan tat'

Yet another milestone in the sorry saga of the Gold Bros v. Geoffrey Nicholson - http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/ne...ngs.5985898.jp - the comments are quite enlightening too. Not a lot of love lost for them.

    Interesting.

Malap Singh was found guilty of attacking Mr Nicholsby in August 2007 and fined £350, after the 63-year-old was punched in the face.
Wow. That's low. What's the backstory on this?

Just as well he had that clause in the lease when he sold it.

    Thanks for the update Phil.

I heard about this but I never knew Gold Brothers actually assaulted him.

I'm glad it's turned out in his favor... I just wish that the only kilt shops in Edinburgh were REAL kilt shops!

http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/to...for.4760691.jp He was fined £350 He claimed he could only afford to pay £5 a week but was order to pay £15 a fortnight! I live on the Royal Mile and I'm always interested in reading what everyone has to say about The Tartan Tat Merchants! I used to get really wound up about it all now I think ''Tartan Tat Watching'' is better than the telly! I can't wait for the next episode. Have you noticed that quite a lot of the Tartan Tat merchants are disabled or have relatives who are disabled and that is why they have Disabled Parking Permits.

    The Gold Bros Empire expands

An interesting article today. Gold Bros have acquired another property on the Royal Mile. Yet another outlet for tartan tat I wonder? - http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/ne...old.5990228.jp

I saw that Phil. Where do they get all their money from? Just how much tartan tat do tourist buy??? !!!
Does anyone know the answer to the following:
If you are fined £350 what criteria does the judge use to decide the amount you should pay on a weekly basis? To pay only £7.50 per week would you need to be claiming benefits or on a very low income? I find it surprising that Malap Singh who is part of the Gold Brothers multi-million pound industry was ordered to pay so little

No matter how one views the Gold Bros, surely yet another of their establishments in the same area is overkill.

As far as I know a store called "Off Beat Clothing" is also closing down (next month?) to allow yet another Gold Brothers-supplied stockroom to open to the public. There's the Gold Brother's shop "thescotlandshop.com" on the corner, just 4 shop units up.
They are slightly better than the Gold Brother's shops in that they offer a large range of wool kilts from Scottish makers, but the street needs a little more diversity. I'd be happy if they managed to close down the shop on the corner, though!
