Spokane's happening!

So I headed to the Lair (the local book store) to get my NYTimes for the day and low and behold in the line was another lad in a kilt! This has been happening a lot more here in Spokane. A few years ago I was the only one wearing a kilt and now I seem to have a few fellow kilt wearers.

That is fantastic! I have heard from others about seeing kilts around town but I have never run across anyone.

Excellent, great to see the kilt catching on as every day wear.
Somehow I do not think my father would have seen so many kilts when he visited Spokane in the nineteen forties.

Hey Alex, small World! Spokane is where my father went to sign up for the Royal Air Force after Pearl Harbor. Drove over from Missoula to meet with a "representative" of the RAF.

The RAF recruiter told him he didn't have enough flight time in his log book to enlist. The recruiter suggested he take a pen, go down the hall to a private room and "get some more flight time." My father did just that and was accepted. Practical people in Spokane.

No wonder they wear kilts.

In the nineteen forties you would be run out of town if you didn't have bagpipes to go with the kilt. Spokane's a much more open place now. You all come to visit. Let me know when.
