    Sort of, but there is scientific reasons for following most of the Torah laws.

    for linen and wool there is something to do with the moisture wicking properties of the two types of fabric together that cause it to be less than ideal or even healthy... (at least that's what I've heard.)

    Also most of the dietary laws lend themselves to a very healthy way of eating.

    I will admit I had to look this one up too...

    From everything I came across in my curious searching, testing is very inexpensive, non-destructive, and doesn't take long. Likely you'll find exactly what Wizard said.

    If it contains forbidden fru-its, it's worth asking the band quartermaster if they would allow you to have the kilt modified...simply replace the offending material with something kosher. It's also probably the least expensive option, and there are a bunch of people here who could help handily, I think.

    On the other hand, if your husband's enthusiasm for going kilted is similar to ours, then I heartily recommend placing an order and jonesing with the rest of us for a few months !
