Pros don't have to be there. It is always nice to chat with them, but if they aren't there, no biggy. I was just looking at Gatlinburg, you are right, a competitive A class. I may have to give that some thought! Thanks.

The same pros usually throw at both Glasgow and Gatlinburg. Same with the A's. These guys over here travel a lot.

Ahhh...early 2010 update:
Weather is a sunny 21 degrees. Windchill finally above single digits--time to throw, eh?
Hitting stones, hammers all at last year's average--not trying to push anything--focused on form.
Shoulder is better so WOB feels good. Still going with either hand though. Might as well since my left is as good as my right. This way I'll be in shape and if I'm at a place where I'm missing at one, I can try with the other.
Caber is ok--picks are cleaner--need a longer caber now.
Sheaf---well, have you ever really felt what happens to a sheaf bag once it gets a bit of snow packed into it? My fork sux.
I'm still standing, still throwing and looking forward to the year.

Notice how I invite you knowing that you are FAR from my Masters U200 class
The real question is, does your A class toss a 16# sheaf or a 20# sheaf? Real men toss a 20 pounder, only boys and old men toss a 16....oh, wait, sorry Pete!

Seriously, the games around the midwest ALWAYS seem to have the sheaf and there's ALWAYS a 20#. Its typically the 16# they 'forget'
I help with my hometown game here in Kelso, WA. Last year I built standards for the WOB/Sheaf, along with a 20#. Ran out of time to make a 16#. Luckily nobody complained. I will make a new set of Sheaves(or is that Sheafs?) for this years games. There is no instructions on how to make one. It is just trial and error. Last years was good, but not great. With a relatively small budget, can't afford Clevenger, I have to "donate" my time and the use of my equipment. Oh well, it is a good cause! Keep throwing, as well as a sense of humor!
As for practice,
HWFD 30' -56# just in case you were unsure...
LWFD 60'
LHammer 91'
Open 37'
Braemar 27'
WOB Didn't clear 11 1/2'--terrible!!!!!
Sheaf It was raining and the bag was way overweight, Didn't clear 22'--I know, excuses, excuses.
Caber 15' 70# three turns 12:00,11:55, 1:00. I was tired and did not try our 16' 90+#--I don't want to break it this early in the season
And the gym,
Focusing on hip movement.
Dead Lifts 10 @ 135, 7 @ 205, 3 @ 255
Squat 10 @ 205, 7 @ 255, 3 @ 305
Hang Clean-just learning technique-- 3x 10 @ 135
Just to round out legs
Leg curls 15 @ 110, 10 @ 130, 7 @ 150
Leg extensions 15 @ 130, 10 @ 160, 7 @ 180
I usually do calf the same day as shoulders, still want to be able to walk out of the gym on leg day!

SURE rub it in big fella! I'll throw the 56 anytime--anywhere. It just weighs a little under a third of my total body weight--so don't stand too close!
Hey--good for you for helping out at your local games. My opinion--I'd like to see a bit more of that rather than having guys show up at the last minute expecting to be 'taken care of' and then whinning if the last little thing isn't to their liking.
WALKING on keg work out days? You sir are wise beyond your years! I still stumble and shuffle like a chimp with a rupture for at least 2 days after I work my legs!
