2009 Finals and 2010 Goals
Hey guys, sorry I have not been active in a while. Life gets in the way you know. Ended the 2009 season in Tucson back in November. Overall it was a great season! Set some new PRs, beat some goals and fell short of others. Here are my 2009 Season ending numbers and my 2010 goals:
----------------2009 Final Numbers-----2010 Goals
Braemar---------30' 6.5"----------------33'
Open Stone-----38' 1.5"----------------45'
HWFD-----------30' 6"------------------33'
LWFD-----------62' 3.5"----------------68'
22# Hammer----76' 2"------------------84'
16# Hammer----95' 7.5"----------------105'
20# Sheaf------25'---------------------28'
WOB------------12'---------------------14'
Caber-----------no turn "A" caber--------well.....I just want to turn them all!
This should be my season for 2010:
Bellingham, WA
Prosser, WA
Coquitlam, BC
Portland, OR
Enumclaw, WA
Kelso, WA
And one travel game yet to be determined.
Of course I may add another game if the opportunity arises.
Until June it is all gym time for me. Have to shed the winter weight and get stronger to reach my goals. I will be posting updates, as I reach goals. I invite everyone to use this thread to post their 2009 results and 2010 goals.
Have a great 2010!!
James

Good year James! Great goals. NO reason those stones and WFD numbers shouldn't be nailed. Something tells me that you're big and strong enough--some decent training that doesn't give you a training injury then focus-focus and re-focus on technique and you'll stomp those Prs this coming year.
I've seen hammer throws that had that little bet of looser arms, a bit more speed, a bit more hip engaged and a real 'dig' before the release--count for 5 or more extra feet from the same guy during the same competition--and have him look down range and say 'where did THAT come from?"

Hopefully I'll be up in Enumclaw again, so we can hang out and tell lies! Hi to your lady, she's a sweetie....and to John and Breanne! I would give my eye teeth for your stone numbers!!
Goals for 2010.
1. Open Stone over 30 feet. This is my #1 goal. I *should* be able to do it, and after this winter in the gym, I hopefully will have the equipment to do it.
2. WOB over 13 feet. I'm awfully tired of clearing 12' 11" and missing at 13.
3. Light hammer out past 80 again. I went to 83 season before last, then got stuck at 78-79 all last year.
4. Not sure I want to formally declare this as a goal, but I'd kinda like to see 50 feet in the LWFD. I've done it a few times in practice, and I popped out a 46-and-change at Santa Cruz. I could do it.

Had the first practice of the season on Sunday. Holy crow am I sore. Even with all of the gym work the last 2 months. You forget the muscles that are used in throwing aren't always the same used in the gym. Not too bad for no practice since November.
Braemar 29'
Open 38'
HWFD 29'
LWFD 60'
Light Hammer 95'
No caber, too wet
WOB, just a few pulls, no uprights
No Sheaf or Heavy Hammer
For the most part just wanted to get out and let the body remember the motion. I will spend quite a bit more time in the field as the weather improves. At the moment, my first game is not until June, so I have a bit, of course if something comes up...
Throw far!

Are you looking for places where the pros throw? There is Glasgow, KY June 1st I think or Gatlinburg in the middle of May. Glasgow has the better field conditions. The pros that throw there are usually Larry Brock, Kerry O, Craig Smith, and Little(can't remember the first name). There are others. They have a pretty competitive A class too.

Oyg! A TWO tined fork?!!--that's a PICK not a sheaf fork! Check out the NSAGA site if you want to come east. Glascow is a big games, Knoxville is smaller, but fun with a great group of guys. The good-ole-boys even but up with this Yankee now and then. Come on east--put a slappin' on some of the boys here.
Notice how I invite you knowing that you are FAR from my Masters U200 class
