Black or Brown?
The wife and I are stepping out to a Valentine's Day dinner dance on Sunday evening. It's not formal or even semi-formal, just a "dress nice" occasion - comparable to "day wear" on the Highland dress spectrum.
I'll be wearing my charcoal-grey tweed Crail jacket and waistcoat. Given the nature and time (evening) of the event, the color of the jacket, etc., should I go with black sporran and shoes, or would brown leathers be okay as well?
Here's a pic of my jacket (from an advertisement):
Thanks, folks...!

Again, Black. Black is always best for evening wear, as stated by others.

I'd agree with black for evening wear. That is a very nice jacket. I'd be very jealous if I didn't acquire (or rather make) one very much like it today!! Kohl's had Chaps brand suit separates on their winter clearance and happened to have matching grey vests and two button suitcoats...I bought one of each and modified the jacket this afternoon. Took all of 4.5 hours...not bad I don't think! It was, of course, much more expensive than a thrift store find, but when comparing prices to most retailers, I don't feel too bad. I have not added any flaps on the sleeves, buttons to pockets, or epaulets...and I might not either. I think it's very nice exactly how it is. After looking at Kinloch Anderson, I wish I had kept the second button and buttonhole...I think I could have...oh well...it looks fine with one!
