Sockknitter is attempting to find out why so many rabble have trouble finding commercial hose to fit calves properly. As someone who has worked in the area of fit in garments (made to measure sewing patterns and fitting commercial patterns) she is conducting a very valid study. One thing I've run into time and time again with small company sewing patterns is that the base pattern is generally based on the owner or someone similar, or based on false or out dated assumptions.
In the end Sockknitter could very well find something in the mix and apply that to her sockknitting for others. One measurment I might have added, is the height from the floor to the widest part of the calf.
I'd add my own measurements, but I could skew things being female, not to mention making you all jealous about my highland dancing formed calf.
