    Shoe size 8 1/2 EE (U.S.)
    Calf 16.5 in.
Length of lower leg 19 in.

Perhaps the next question though is "how well do standard off the shelf hose fit"? In my case, just fine.

Perhaps the most interesting measurements will be of those who standard hose do not fit well?

Sockknitter is attempting to find out why so many rabble have trouble finding commercial hose to fit calves properly. As someone who has worked in the area of fit in garments (made to measure sewing patterns and fitting commercial patterns) she is conducting a very valid study. One thing I've run into time and time again with small company sewing patterns is that the base pattern is generally based on the owner or someone similar, or based on false or out dated assumptions.

In the end Sockknitter could very well find something in the mix and apply that to her sockknitting for others. One measurment I might have added, is the height from the floor to the widest part of the calf.

I'd add my own measurements, but I could skew things being female, not to mention making you all jealous about my highland dancing formed calf.

Thank you, Dixiecat! And after seeing shoe sizes, I totally forgot to think about the circumference around the ball of the foot....to account for the wides and the narrows.

    With 14 responses:

Shoe sizes run from the small of 8.5 ee to a 13
The calf circumference runs from a 14 to an 19.5
The length from the bump at the top of the shin to the floor runs 16 to 20.

You may all be Scots, but no two of you are alike!

I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but I'm putting it in a spreadsheet. I like geeking on spreadsheet data, trying to make it make sense, identify relationships if there are any.

    It's weird, I know.

Not weird at all. The company that I work for has a database of more than 30,000 sets of measurements of people and are increasing that everyday. One of the company's future objectives is to provide data mining of the measurements for statistical purposes.

    Thread Hijack...

We're currently conducting a study on measurements obtained using two different methods. If any of the rabble are in or going to be in the Halifax area for the next 2 months, drop me a PM to find out how to participate and get yourself a $10 Tims card for only 20min of your time.

    End Hijack...
