OK.... it's test time.
First up...the Macallan 12
Strong aroma... WOW. First taste..... definitely different from the Highland Park. Much sharper ....very sharp. Hmmmmm.... let me add a drop of water.
OK...I usually prefer my scotch neat. This one is much better with a drop of water. I understand the concept behind adding the water but I usually do without. Not with Macallan...for me.... it needs the water. Not too much...just enough to break the surface tension and allow the scotch to breathe. This one certainly got better after allowing it to breathe a bit.
A small snort left and I'll then try the Bunnahabhain. (They had no Ardberg so I'll add it to my list for next month)
OK...here we go:
Oooo... squatty bottle. I like squatty bottles. Good rich color.... very nice bouquet ..
Much smoother..... deeper oak flavor. These 2 could not be much more different.
I can see how one would prefer the Macallan at times but want the smooth wood flavor of the Bunnahabhain at other times. (How do you say that name anyways?) The Bunn is much duller taste....one I would prefer on a cold dark evening while the Macallan is one that I might like more at a pub or out on the town. It says SCOTCH! while the Bunn says... 'relax'.
Thanks for all the input.... lets start a 3rd list...I plan on doing this again next month.
