Do try to get a silk sash, rather than a wool one. They are more expensive, but much nicer and more suitable for evening wear.

I too would agree that silk is the best option. I have heard of and seen cushion covers made of the silk afterwards as a useful and permanent reminder of the day. Rather than be stuffed away in a drawer for all eternity and forgotten about.
