    Sporran Decision

This isn't the normal thread about the type of sporran (ie. full mask, dress, or semi-dress, etc.). I am wondering if anyone had a recommendation between L&M and the sporrans sold by USA Kilts. I have always heard that L&M makes great sporrans. I know that USA kilts makes fantastic kilts, but what about their sporrans. I really like the extra pocket for business cards and the like, but after going through two cheap (both in price and unfortunately build quality) I have decided to spend the money and get a high quality sporran. Any feedback on quality and overall impressions would be greatly appreciated.

Think you're talking apples and oranges here. Haven't bought a sporran from Rocky, don't think he makes them himself (??) rather offers sporrans made by others. For sure he'd stand behind anything he sold you.

I have ordered a custom L&M sporran and am very pleased with it save the smaller pouch in back but guess that's standard for dress sporrans.

Be sure and get measurements for the sporran you choose before you buy. For some reason many sporran vendors don't bother giving us dimensions.

Couldn’t agree more, I have a black L&M Rob Roy style that is very nice in quality and appearance but the size is definitely a bit smaller than I was looking for, so if you do decide to go with L&M get them to give you some dimensions. While I also have both a Wyvern and Freelander sporran and think they both exceeded all my expectations including size, and would recommend them whole heartedly.

You really can't go wrong with an L&M sporran, they're very nice.

However, there are many excellent leather craftsmen (and women, I'm sure) that make sporrans. So, depending on the style of sporran that you're looking for, there may be better alternatives to L&M. If you're looking to get a nice sporran, you can get a custom one-of-a-kind piece made to your exact specifications.

I have two L&M sporrans a Sealskin Dress and Leather Day Wear. I would heartily recommend them, they are heirloom quality and worth every penny.

If you want a top quality day sporran of "classic" style then look no further. The build of these items are simply superb. Their kilt belts too, are worth a look.I have worn their sporran, sporran strap and kilt belt for well over thirty years now and they hardly show any wear at all and I confidently expect that my great, great, grandchildren will still be wearing them.

One thing to note, L&M is a supplier. So there are many retailers that carry their products. The pictures of full mask sporrans on USAKilts are the stock pictures from L&M.

Also, I have a fox mask sporran from L&M and it is gorgeous! I highly recommend their work.

I'm sure Rocky will chime in here, but I'm certain that USA Kilts is an L&M retailer, so at least some of the sporrans they sell are L&M sporrans. So depending on which sporrans you are looking at, the question of comparison is a moot point.

We also sell L&M sporrans at the Scottish Tartans Museum, so I can attest to their high quality. We used to carry Nichol Brothers sporrans from Scotland before that age-old venerable company went out of business. I can honestly say that I've had fewer quality issues with the L&M brand than I did with Nichol Brothers.

All of my sporrans, with the exception of a few full mask sporrans from Kate Macpherson, Scotland, are from L&M out of Novia Scotia. They have an excellent selection of sporrans and they also do custom sporrans-they made my horsehair sporran to my specifications. Great company.
