Would you wear a kilt in Lanzarote

at present on holiday in Lanzarote in the Canary Islands and it is very warm, looking forward to celebrating St. Patrick's Day on Wednesday, its big here with loads of Irish on holiday and ex-pats.
It would have been great to be kilted on St Patrick's Day but how can you wear akilt in such warm temperatutres, we Scots are just not made for that, it has to be shorts in this weather, pity!

I'm curious what the temperature is there right now?

We wear kilts here in Texas even when it's over 100 degrees F (38 degrees C). If we can handle it, surely a rugged Scot can handle it too!

I would have thought that the advantage of a kilt in hot weather was the free movement of air. Shorts just don't give you that.

Look at it this way, the sweat will leave your body faster in a kilt than in a pair of shorts. Shorts will just collect the sweat and get wet faster.

No reason way you shouldn't wear your kilt in Lanzarote.
I wore my Union Kilts Indi Denim most of the time I was on the neighbouring island of Gran Canaria in 2008. Lots of positive comments and no negatives and the kilt was far more comfortable than the shorts which I wore on one of the days.

In all seriousness, when wearing my kilt in 100 degree weather, I find that the hottest part of it is in front... behind my sporran. While a kilt generally should allow better air flow to one's legs and such, it's the sporran that impedes this. Especially a leather one, sitting in front of two layers of cloth, and pressing into one's dangly bits. In my (albeit limited) experience in kilt wearing, I've found that it provides great relief from the heat to dispense with the sporran to allow better air flow in that area.

You should be fine in a kilt. Summer weather here (southwestern Ontario) can occasionally reach 40 C (104 F) with the humidity and I don't find the kilt to be less comfortable than shorts.

Back before I moved kilts to the back of the closet, I experimented with this out here in the concrete desert of the Phoenix area.

A wool kilt, traditional with the pleats cut away above the fell and replaced with hair canvas, is just fine in the hottest weather; probably better than shorts. If it has all the fabric up above the fell "pillow butt," it is a little bit warmer. The leather belt and sporran can be a heat retainer. Wool hose, I used Lewis hose, are ok, and keep the direct sun from causing heat on your skin; though bare legged is a little cooler in the shade. I just heard some people cringe...

Your shoes will be the main problem in over heating; I don't know that you have to wear a belt. Also jackets, waistcoats, etc, will add to the problem. So mainly it is the accessories that cause an issue.

Though, by most, a wide brim sun hat of some sort would be perfectly fine to wear with a kilt outfit.

I prefer kilts in the Summer, as there is more air movement than with shorts, but a sporran will trap the heat. When it gets warm, just ditch the hose and go with sandals!
