Kilted in Lanzarote
Just back yesterday from Lanzarote, Canary Islands. During the holiday Scotlan d were playing 2 world cup qualifying games, one last Saturday and the second on Wednesday evening, normally at home in Glasgow I would have attended the home match on Wednesday and watched the away game with Holland from a Glasgow pub with several kilted members of the Tartan Army.
So not to be outdone I took my kilt to Lanzarote and wore it on Wednesday night for the Iceland at the local sports bar. Many of the foreigners had never seen anyone in a kilt before and this went down really well with most folk. Neddless to say I did get a few drinks bought for me and made quite a few new friends. There is nothing like the kilt for getting people together

Good for you! Wearing the kilt in Latin America as I occasionally do, I'm always happy to see the Hispanic world exposed to it. Many people there have no concept of what a kilt is, don't even know the word. They just assume it's a tranvestite thing.

Jimmy, you left out the most important part: how did Scotland do in the WC qualifiers?

Pictures!
I have found mainland Spain and Gran Canaria to be very kilt friendly, not been to Lanzarote since my pre-kilt days.

Hi I wore a kilt for a holiday in spain for alomst the week, last october, I did get some stares and some double takes, but all in all it was very positive, even got asked to be included in a few photos, We were in Alicante and Carthagena. the weater was just right not overly warm for a kilt, but i was grateful to be wearing a kilt in the evenings, During the day it worked with a rubgy type shirt and a simple black sporran and at night it could be dressed up. The only place I got any greif was in a Irish Pub, and only becuse my partner mentioned we were irish, The question was asked why was I wearing a kilt, and kinda got laughed at. But other than that it was a very pleasent experience, even wore the kilt home on the plane because we were over weight going out and every 2 - 3 Kg matter.
