Because it is an old English word for a sneeze. My spell checker picked it up, I use "iespell".

Sure why not - but I felt weird even voting since its been years since I've worn a tie, and then was a wool tartan tie with a solid color kilt.

I have been a devoted fan of Linda Ellerbee since she uttered her famous statement,

"If men can run the world, why can't
they stop wearing neckties?
How intelligent is it to start the day by
tying a little noose around your neck?"

If women can burn their bras in liberation - why can't we guys burn our neckties in liberation??

I have two regimental ties, a greyish long tie, and a couple of bow-ties, all in silk, that I wear with my kilts.

The ties I wear with my kilt are the same ties that I wear during the week for work. Most are silk, though I do have a few Madras cotton for summer and a few wool country ties for wear with tweed. Most are repp-striped, foulard patterned, or Churchill dots, a few are solid or crested.

I felt that way for many years. I hated ties and thought they should be phased out as traditional men's wear. But in the last couple of years I've taken to wearing them (voluntarily!) to work. It does tend to make an ordinary outfit just a little more dressy, and can make a lot of style statements when you're forced to wear pants instead of a kilt.

I think open collars are too casual for certain situations. And it looks downright silly to button up a shirt all the way to the collar without a tie. It makes me think of Erkel. So a tie, to me, is a nice way to 'finish out' a nice look. And these days I find myself not being so rebellious against tradition, so it doesn't bother me.

A tie shouldn't be uncomfortable. If it is, then it's likely the collar on your shirt is too tight or the tie is being tied too tight.

Some of us like ties and enjoy wearing them, though Ron. Different horses for courses.

There were a couple of nice designs in play, and the topic was going forward pretty well. After the usual know-it-all troll attack, the staff at that time closed the thread pending a mods discussion with the owner.(Hank) For whatever reason the topic was never re-opened.
