That is Dr. D. Gordon Teall of Teallach, Baron of Huntly, who was responsible for the establishment of the Scottish Tartans Museum in the USA. At the time (the museum was established in 1988) he was president of the Scottish Tartans Society. I was hired by the museum in 1997 and got to meet him once on a visit to the US before he passed on in 1998.

The STS is no longer an operational body, but happily the museum which they helped to found under Dr. Teall's leadership in Franklin is still going strong and promoting tartan on "this side of the pond."

(BTW, that portrait was painted by famed kilt historian and retired kilt maker Bob Martin -- a man of many talents!)

One other thing I noticed about this photo. Not only did Ryan (right) knit all the bonnets we are wearing, but Lamar Britt (left) made all the sporrans, and I (center) made all the kilts, including the one I'm handing off to Lamar. I don't think that fact even occurred to me at the time we took the photo!
Maybe the three of you should not be allowed in the same room at the same time. If something were to happen we would lose half a continent of craftsmen!

    Wow...great pic

The kilts, bonnets, sporrans, and buckle....all fabulous! I really want to order a Tyger buckle to go on a brown belt...someday. Right now I'm just poor :-(

Tyger, your buckles are very nice. I like the more casual square scalloped belt buckles that Ryan and Lamar are wearing too.

Anyone know where to find these?

Hah- I hadn't thought of that! Pretty cool, I think.

    Right here:

...ignore all the pirate talk. The buckles are awesome.

...and I'm personally hoping that I'll soon have one of Mark's buckles, as well. They look great in pictures, but even better in the flesh. The Chi Rho w/Alpha and Omega is on my to-get list, for sure.
