Yep, I'm working out every day, also. However, I'm not a muscle dude. I use to run marathons, but now I xc ski race, ride bikes, and rock climb. If the highland games do aerobic activities, I might do well. Cheers!

Snowboarding season is coming to a close, so I been running, lifting, and mountain biking. Really curious about hucking telephone poles around...how does a guy get started, anyway?

Best way to start is to check around your local area for other throwers and see if they have practice times and join in. Go to nasgaweb.com Good place to learn about everything associated with our madness. Youtube has TONS of videos to check out too.

Go to a games and talk to the guys there too. There are posts on this forum that show you a lot about training equipment etc. We all start out the same way--by saying "hey, I'd like to try that" and then mucking in with folks already throwing. You'll find we're a very friendly and helpful lot.

Had my first ever highland games training session last saturday. Messed up my shoulder a bit doing the 56 lb WFD I think. Couple days of ice and sling and I'll be good as new and back in the gym though. Can't wait to get another games day in and start to add it regularily to my powerlifting.

Threw in a Demo-Day, low-key competition on Saturday. It was a nice day, seeing as we had three new throwers out. Eighteen athletes showed and we did 6 or 7 events, depending. I didn't have a 56 pound weight so the Open mens threw the 42, which was impressive!

I had a nice Braemar toss, near my PR and then set that long-awaited 30 foot PR in the Open Stone. I was pretty happy about that! I turned the "Cardinal" Caber, which is my big practice stick. I've only turned it twice before, so to crank it over twice on Saturday was pretty cool. I even managed 80 deg on "The Whomper"...16 feet, 110 pounds. Everything else was fine, a little "off" but then it's the first Games of the season and we were throwing in deep sand for the hammer. turns out at the end of the day that I won the Masters 50+, but then two of the guys were coming off LONG off-seasons where they'd gotten hurt.

I might have a couple of pics, will post 'em if they get e-mailed to me..

So much for having a 'problem' with stones, eh Alan? Good job!
