Ancestry.com lists the name Prentice in Lanarkshire and Midlothian, lowland counties.

Given those origins, it is pretty safe to say that a connection to a Highland clan probably doesn't exist. Black's Surnames of Scotland states that only about 30% of Scottish surnames are Highland clans, and it has only been in recent times that Lowland families have adopted Highland dress.
That being said, there is certainly nothing wrong with wearing a District tartan from either Scotland or Canada.
