It's been my observation that those who really have the standing and authority to be offended by something as simple as this are usually the ones who wisely choose to just brush it off and not make a big show about it. Why get your knickers in a twist over something so inconsequential?
Some of us, myself included, might take the opportunity to make what we hope is a funny comment but to take actual offence at this fella's chronologically challenged outfit? Naaaaaah.
I don't even get offended when I show up kilted and get lectured by some guy with a few too many shots of whisky in him who's laying a shipload of "historical facts" about his clan and his tartan and Scottish history on me that I know are the popular fantasy version of stuff that we've kicked around here on the forum. (And thanks to the resident historians that keep us honest on that stuff!) Oh yeah, buddy...suuuuure...that tartan has been in your family for thousands of years...uh huh.
I think that we should create an Xmarks initiative to set up a booth at all Highland Games with one of our authorities seated behind a sign that reads: "The Historical Accuracy of Your Outfit Critiqued Here! $1." In the rare eventuality that we ever actually get any takers on this, we could toss the money into an Xmarks beer fund...

I didn't see many here offended by the guy's outfit. Irritated, sure. But offended? He's not wearing bloody crucifixes upside down for crying out loud! The things is, in person, I wouldn't bother with the guy unless I came to know him... but this is a discussion forum, so I figure it's for discussing things frankily and openly.

If I took a personal offence to people dressing dumb, I'd have to be medicated just to leave the house! The only thing I thought when I looked at that photo was "PC and 'gillie' shirt plus pirate belt, seen that at renfaire"
I miss the old "Do's and Don't s" thread, it was often quite funny, and I thought educational in it's way. But one of the reasons it had to go was that just like this thread, one goofy photo, or the reponses to it, would annoy somebody's delicate sensibilities and generate pages of blah blah blah...
