This makes me sick. There are no casual clothes.

Here is a thread that PISSES me off. Not the thread but the topic. I should say lack of topic. It is hard to find clothes to wear with a kilt, any kilt trad or modern. I don't wear mine as often as I used to just because it is so hard to find kit to wear with them. I am so tired of the boots and hose pulled up or down, t-shirts or sweaters. It's the same old thing. Most often, at work, I wear my dress shirts with hose, flashes, tartan, black or brown leather kit. I make my own sporrans to match my other accessories. There is no retailer that sells clothes for kilt wearers. I don't want $150 waistcoats(hell I can't even find vests anywhere), I don't want $500 Charlie jackets. I want variety. I'm tired of t-shirts, hoodies Most clothes in the retail stores don't match, you can't wear just anything. I'm not punk(still a 1978 punker at heart) cause I'm to old, the grunge look is ok oncew in a while, and I don't want to always wear t-shirts or dress up. I don't want a costume I want clothes. I want some one to sell clothes that look good with tartans, or UK's, but not have to dress up or try to look like Braveheart. I want business casual at work and decent casual around town. I hate pants. Have I mentioned I hate pants? For those that have posted pics and ideas thanks.

Im not sure if this is a rant for or against this thread. But I do agree that finding normal ish clothes which go with a kilt is quite difficult. That said with a little ingenuity it can be done without spending a hundred pounds on a waistcoat

I find a lot of usefull items in Op shops. Harris tweed jackets for $10 - 15 that can be tailored to kilt jackets for $50, waistcoats/vests (doeskin, tweed) for $5 - 10, tweed ties, tattersall shirts, buckles for belts. Good quality items don't have to cost the earth. It has taken a while hunting through Op shops, but I have picked up some real bargains along the way.

Riverkilt, CMcG, Guitarmatt--everybody else---great thread! You guys rock the kilt! This is very inspirational. Renews faith and view of kilt as clothing not costume. Good on 'ya! What a bunch of dead sexy men! Glad my wife is not on here...Riverkilt, I am somewhat shocked that somehow I never realized what a subtle and accomplished clothes horse you are! With your rich and varied ensemble, you are quite the fashion plate! CMcG, I confess that I really like your clubbin' outfit...

I'm glad that people are continuing to enjoy this thread

My contribution was put together on a lark in response to the OP. I just wanted to see what I could come up with! Perhaps it might be worth considering some outfits a little more carefully and getting photos with better light...

This winter I went out and splurged and bought myself two solid color heavy carhart long sleeve shirts. They work great with a kilt, tartan, camo, utilitkilt or otherwise.

Lets jazz it up, the waistcoat cost 20 bucks from a discount clothes shop.

I find it really easy to shop affordably for cloths to go with the kilt. Everything in my closet that I could wear with trouser ( shudder ) I can just as easily wear and of course do wear with my lower body garment of choice.
