    Oh it gets better than that...turns out the MacRanalds (& its various spellings) were common as dirt & found all over "Macdonald Country": Clanranald, Sleat, Glengarry, & Kintyre.

    That's 4 more kilts (never mind that I also really like the Glencoe tartan as well, making it 5 --- they were our 'neighbors' to the south & fought as part of the Keppoch regt at Culloden,).......okay, okay, I know there isn't a Macdonald of Kintyre tartan (that I'm aware of), but there is a Kintyre 'fashion' tartan registered

    If I had this extensive historical research and result I would feel more than lucky. Sounds like you are part of the broad Macdonald clan to me.

    Yeah, the family roots (cousins etc) seem to extend far & wide within the clan...my direct line seems to mainly show up in Keppoch & Kintyre before moving across the water to Ulster.

    There is so much more to tell, but its best saved for the genealogical section
