Ok I am going to go against the grain here... You first state you are a president of a veterans organization, and a donator and finally you mention you are a reservist. Under that guise alone, I would think the kilt, jacket, and a regimental tie would be in order. You are showing your military service without being to obvious.

Good on you for supporting the Veterans, by taking an active role in a Veterans organization, for supporting the Active Duty Service Members. And Thank You for your service!

I would have to say wear your uniformuniform, just because of the nature of the event, as I can nothing against a nice kilt.

Many thanks for your service, and please along my thanks to the congressman as well. I imagine being a POW must be a special kind of hell.

U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson was a guest of the Hanoi Hilton for almost 7 years. A special kind of hell probably doesn't cover it. The man is worth throwing an banquet to honor by himself. On top of that he did 29 years in the Air Force across both Korea and Vietnam... makes me feel like a shirker.

I will probably go in Diner Dress Blue (blues with miniature medals). While it whites season but blues are always appropriate for formal events,

    Thanks for the help,
    Jim

The evening went well. I'm glad the guess was black tie. It turns out that this was hosted by Ross Perot though he was out of town that night and was a $500 a plate meal. I kind of wish the person who invited me had warned me on the level of the event. Luckily I matched the General there in dinner dress.

We were at the Perot/Dell building. A bit of a monument to Perot. The halls were filled with his stuff. Between the building and the company my wife and I were feeling a bit insignificant.

Here's a few shots around the lunch room. Except for the USO signs this is pretty much the way it is always decorated -

A close up of the tables:

A guest speaker (Brigadier General Brogan):

The knives I donated for the auction. They made a mistake and priced them at $300 for both instead of each -

But they sold in about two minutes -

And a last parting shot of one of the honorees - Congressman Sam Johnson (and my lovely wife Amy)

Looks like you had a good time, and your kiltless decision worked out.

Too bad about the knife pricing. Somebody got a bargain.

Seriously, wear the uniform. You're the president of a veteran's organization. Wear the uniform.
