Not sure, you'll have to ask Rocky about that one. I know USA Kilts really does a great job with their machine stitching. I actually have one of Rocky's casual kilts myself (in wool) and it's machine stitched. Maybe they offer a hand stitched option, I don't know?
I've always liked the casual kilts we offer at the museum for those looking for a lower cost kilt but who didn't want to give up on the ideal of quality, woven in Scotland, worsted wool tartan material. I've always said that the two major differences between our standard kilts and the casuals were 1)the yardage, and 2) the fact that the casuals were machine stitched.
Well, now there is really only one major difference, that being the yardage used. They did such a great job on this MacLaren we just got in that I don't even think I'd be able to "spot" it as a casual kilt from a distance. I'm very pleased.
