Tartan Day 2010 Photos: Depicting Highland Dress
Greetings all,
Below I have posted several photos taken in early April during the Tartan Day celebrations in historic, downtown Saint Charles, Missouri (very near the camp where American explorers-also of Scottish descent-Lewis and Clark set off from on their journey into the American West). Many of the buildings and locations in Saint Charles date to the 18th-century.
The event took place at a wonderful, open park near the banks of the Missouri river, and lasted a weekend; it was indeed a grand time for all who attended. The event is designed much like a typical Highland games, however more emphasis is addressed to the various clans that are present, live entertainment, educational information regarding all things Scottish (not necessarily Highland), piping events, and a nominal amount of athletic competitions. It's a rather stirring and lively gathering, or rally, of Scots and those of Scottish descent, honoring and celebrating the signing of the Declartion of Arbroath in 1320. Enjoy these beginning photos, as there are more to follow that will actually show a variety of Scottish-Americans in Highland attire!

Looks like you and the friends had a great time. Very sharp-looking attire, indeed.

Great photos as always Kyle and thanks for sharing. I'm curious as to why you haven't posted them in the "Show Us Your Pics" section of the forum though?

Just as aside, but there was a native Scot living in St. Charles at the time of the Lewis & Clark expedition, James Mackay:

Mackay gave Lewis & Clark his maps from previous expeditions up the Missouri River to the Mandan villages.
