Perhaps you could get a tv series that would be a variation of the old "Green Acres" series that dealt with some fella who always wanted to be a crofter and gave up his legal practice in the city to move to a wild croft?

ps: ...but I am forgetting that, if there's a concept for a tv series, someone somewhere in the UK television system has already thought of it!

Rex and Jock,
I thank you for your knowledge of the rules. I was starting to worry that my Scottish Conservation Re-introduction of the Wild Crofter Sponsor (S.C.R.I.W.C.S.) would not be fully familiar with all of them.
As, just as in the case of the other re-introduced species, it is the responsibility of the landowner to preserve and protect the re-introduced species at their own expense. I was just going to wait for Rex to pack me in a box and then release me in a suitable glen.
I would then set-up a small stone stone croft as a natural habitat. All I would need to do is show myself on occasion and pose for eco-tourist photos.
The rest of the time I can sit around sipping Scotch, fishing for Salmon, and making kilts.
As Bobbie will not be going with me to this life of leisure it would not be long before I would be classified as an endangered species. Rex would have all the funds he needed to provide me with suitable mates to ensure the continuation.

Thank you for naming me a Trustee of your Major Trust, Steve. May I suggest The Grant as the other trustee? He says that there are few who have faith in him when it comes to caring for their gilt, but perhaps this would give him a new lease on life and gain him the belief of the rest of mankind.
I am confused, however, by your statement that you would be "sipping whisky" while you fished and sewed. You have certainly poured a few drams for me over time, but is it nipping at the flask you have been doing during your "I'll just dash into the closet for a moment" visits?
For information. On the subject of crofts, "crofts" are plots of land on which crofters live, by the way. The dwelling place is called the crofter's cottage. You may not "buy" one of these bits of land -- they are not to be bought and sold. And far from being a romantic bit of homestead, the best crop on a croft is the stone from which the cottage and outbuildings are made, more of which seems to pop up every year.
Now then, here's something you have brought up that is good for conservation and species-introduction discussion. In Canada there are vast tracts of land owned by the Crown; I presume that is true in America, as well. The Highlands, however, are privately owned, so on whose land would a species be introduced (re-introduced is such a silly word)?

Hmmm, this thread is leading somewhere. For some reason I have a sneaking feeling that there are huge advantages in being retired and having absolutely nothing to do with land owning whatsoever. My sons may not be so happy if this thread is going the way that I think it is!(I hope, I really hope, I really really hope that I am wrong---oh well, deep breath, here goes!) Steve, Rex I am sure you would be made very welcome in many parts of Scotland and there are endless boulders for you to choose from to shelter behind , on the other hand whats-his-name, that other trustee fellow, may I say on my sons' behalf right now, NO! NO! and thrice NO! NEVER EVER!

Oh dear me, Jock, even Court Jesters have feelings. Poor, poor Grant; to be rejected so firmly.
