Tartans Wish List
I have just started wearing the kilt yet I already have a fairly long list of tartans to which can claim a connection and want to get. Does this mean I am an addict?
My list is below.
I would like to see y'alls list.
Smith: at least 5 different tartans
Freemason: at least 2 different tartans
Iowa State and Iowa State Dress tartans
American Heritage
Tennessee (I have not seen this one. I hope there is not a lot of Orange)
XTMS
It is not like I have the $ but I can Jones.

There was a thread like this some while back (something along the lines of "Your tartan & why?"), but for the life of me I cannot find it.
Anyhow, since that time I have re-thought my wish list, and actually trimmed it down. Here's what is on it:
Currently own or in the making:
BUDGET BLACK WATCH - my 1st kilt...cheap / generic tartan / fit the bill at the time.
MACKAY (Modern colours) - 16oz Loccharron/Matt Newsome box pleat. One of my many clans.
MACDONELL of KEPPOCH (Ancient colours) - 16 oz Loccharron/Matt Newsome box pleat (in the queue). Another of my clans
Wish List (in no paticular order):
GREEN IRISH (Solid coloured) - for my O'More ancestors, & is the "tartan" chosen by the Clan O'Mórda society on St. Patrick's Day (2007).
MACDONALD CLAN - Wilson's of Bannockburn colours.
MACDONALD of GLENCOE (Muted colours) - no family connection, but I like the tartan & the Keppoch branch had a somewhat close relationship with the Glencoe branch.
LOCHABER WEATHERED.
HIGHLAND GRANITE.
MACDONELL of KEPPOCH (Ancient colours) - as a Lady Chrystel double box pleat (for formal wear & special occasions).
BLACK WATCH - for reenactment purposes.
I also have an interest in some Harris & estate tweeds, & maybe even the solid Hodden colour as worn by the London Scottish. All listed would be (preferably) 16oz, & either box pleat / double box pleat / or Kingussie pleated.

My current wish list? Let's see...
MacLeod dress (box pleat)
MacLeod dress pleated to the black stripe
Isle Of Skye
Any and all of the 30-ish MacLeod tartans (I already have a double box pleated MacLeod hunting)
And I think I would like an American Heritage pleated to the stripe.
Formerly on my wish list (Meaning I already have it.):
Colorado state tartan
MacLeod hunting
Clergy (See that? Home, family, profession!)
Irish saffron
camo, black, and 2 different green
Nightstalker (wool- I think I got one of the last ones 3 years ago)
I don't wear clan tartans that I have no connection to, so that eliminate most tartans. BUT- there are 30 some tartans for my own clan, so it's not an issue.
MacLeod hunting (I love it- I have to show it off.)

I think I'm not as mature in the formulation of my collection and list as these others. My current is a Dunbar Modern in 16 oz tank, and a couple of SWK's I wear less and less. My wish list includes:
* Isle of Skye in either a box pleat or perhaps a Kingussie style;
* Black Watch in box pleat, heavy wool;
* Carolina tartan, probably box pleat;
I'm sure as the days pass my wish list will grow, too.

It's still early days for me, but I guess my short list is as follows:
Have:
Clan Donald PV casual
NEED:
MacDonald of Clanranald Modern
MacDonald of Clanranald Muted
Want:
Clan Donald NS Highlanders Regimental
MacDonald of the Isles Modern
Lochaber Weathered and WoB
I can't say whether those are 16oz or 13oz nor whether they should be 8 yards or less, but that's what attracts me right now. There are a few more I could add, but those seem to shift in and out of favour daily.

It's only my opinion of course but all these setts, and others of a similar age, look so much better in Wilsons' colours.
Got some Black Watch in c1810 colours and sett, complete with a black selvedge mark, when your wish comes true.

I have let go of wishing for tartan; it hasn't been easy. Kind of strange to see these long lists.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

While I'm a huge admirer of the kilts you all wear, unfortunately I'm not in a position to be able to afford to buy my own - so, I just look on and smile at the gorgeous kilts and jackets you wear and know that one day I'll get to wear one and enjoy them in a whole new way.
That being said, from looking at what I see here, there are a few tartans I really like and one day would love to own kilts in Isle of Skye and Macdonald of Clanranald (My mother's father was a Scot, and this was his tartan)

That being said, if I really thought about it there are a hundred amazing tartans I've seen on this website and would be happy to wear any one of them!!
