Fashion is a movable feast and what appeals to one may not appeal to another. Sir Chris does look OK but I can't help feeling the would jacket would have looked better if it had been cutaway. Why look OK when you could look good? Is it 'change for changes' sake?
The practical reason for having the front cutaway is the sporran and I think the pictures illustrate the 'problem'.
Has anyone else seen similar?
The 'Eathen in his idleness bows down to wood and stone,
'E don't obey no orders unless they is his own,
He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.
