    PV

I would consider Riverkilt an expert on your question, given his proximity to your local and his considerable experience with both wool and PV!

I have a PV casual from USAK and am very happy with it, in its intended role.

I would add that Skye Highland Outfitters also offers competitively priced, high quality, PV kilts and has a different tartan selection than some of our other sponsors/advertisers.

As others have said, its a great material for its intended purpose, and in a traditional style kilt may even have some added versatility that a similar wool kilt does not offer.

Good luck, there is no wrong choice!

I just washed a new USAK casual for the first time. Into the laundry in cold water with all the ohter "delicate" things (all the fiancee seems to own). And then hang it up to dry. Once it's strung up I run my fingers down the pleats to make them crisp and let it air dry. Good to go.

When it comes to bacon grease, there is some possibility of a spot melting on the PV. It likely would not melt through, but the polyester may be hurt. With either fabric, a regular cook's apron should protect it.

When washing the PV, leave off the fabric softener. Over time, it can degrade the protective coating. Ditto if you should hand wash one of the wools with Teflon.

My USA PV's have been washed and hung to dry repeatedly. I hang the kilt carefully, smoothing the pleats as I do. When it's mostly dry, I smooth the pleats again. They have not been touched by an iron since USAK set the pleats.

Ah, one more caveat: no kilt should be "touched" by an iron. Always use a press cloth, and set the temp according to the fabric. See the write-ups here, in TAoK, or Bob Martin's book for more detail.

    Thank You

Every one has been very helpful. It looks as if I am going to give PV a try, mainly because it is machine washable and teflon coated.
One of my problems is Tartan availability in PV, but I guess you can't have it all.
Rocky at USA Kilts seems to have an excellent reputation on this forum. It does appear, however, that there seems to be at least 2 other purveyors of PV. Does any one know if there is a marked difference in quality, service, or price between them?

    Thanks in advance.

    PV Choices

I can only speak to the one PV Kilt I own and the kilt maker. I bought mine from Skye Highland Outfitters and am extremely happy. Josh is very good to work with, was prompt in replies to inquiries and the kilt is very well made.
As this is the classiest kilt I own I have worn it, to date, largely for a step above casual occassions and it looks excellent. Mine is in Isle of Skye tartan is is gorgeous. I would definitely make inquiries with Skye Highland.

Two things about your last post gordontaos, if you are cooking and oil or fat, that is hot enough to burn you, gets onto your PV kilt it will burn that too. Second, try ebay first for a kilt apron, I saw a couple about two weeks ago for A$15.00 each. As for Wool V PV, I always go for wool, never had any trouble with spot cleaning it and never suffer from getting too hot in it
