Kilted in airports

Steve Ashton recently suggested twisting the kilt 90 degrees before stepping through the detector. With the buckles fore and aft the amount of metal passing through the portal at any instant is minimized. Seemed to work when I tried it.

This reminds me of visiting some fairly remote airports in Eastern Europe when travelling with the 'Tartan Army' following the national football team.
The bewilderment on the faces of the security staff, both male and female were priceless. obviously they had never seen or frisked a man in what they believed was a 'skirt'
But that was when we used to have a good team

My silver-colored metal belt buckle doesn't bother them, so why should kilt buckles?

Though I figure flying ina kilt would proably be really comfortable.... not sure I'd try it...never really occured to me haha.

Just completed a trip from Baltimore MD to Mississippi. Went though Baltimore-Washington International, Memphis, New Orleans and Atlanta airports in my Flamingo kilt. With my belt and sporran in the tray going through the metal detector was a breeze. The pockets worked well for more stuff than the sporran will hold. No grief from the security folks. I was in very rural Mississippi, and some people didn't seem to be able to cope with a kipah wearing, kilted Jew. But thats another issue.

Probably is tough enough just being a Jew in rural Mississippi let alone donning a kilt! How do they know anyway? Could be they are reacting to the kilt alone! Now, if you were black, Jewish, kilted and wearing an Aussie hat, they would need duct-tape to keep their heads from exploding!

I wear a kipah (skullcap) when not wearing some other hat. Even in the boondocks, they recognize this as probably being Jewish. I think being a kilted Jewish, mostly Welsh, Marine Vietnam veteran, makes me a minority enough for most purposes.

I did twice hear essentially the same phrase behind my back "expletive deleted, Yankee, anti-Semitic ethnic slur, homophobic slur!" Amazing that the only word suitable for this forum, Yankee, was the most vehemently spoken.
