there was a movie back in the day about some kid that gets an orca released back in to the ocean, called "free willy". i suppose ftw could stand for "free the willy".

i think that would be appropriate here, since we're all wearing kilts.

All I can say is Welcome to America!.....The home of anything goes. Where the history teachers are to be outdone by the sports programs and cheerleaders. Where we can drink to excess on any holiday! Where we show up for work as profesionals and dress like ragamuffins on casual fridays. Welcome to the land of the free and the home of the moronic. If I am going to a festival, (and I go to very few), Either I dress appropriately, or wear jeans and a t shirt. Unless its the Irish festival in Baltimore. Then I wear my kilt. Because BarleyJuice usually performs, and so many others are in kilts.

If you want perfection, put on the event flyer," Proper dress required". Then see who shows up. Festivals are for fun. As long as people aren't carrying real weapons, Who cares. Not every day is living history day. Selling beer is agreat fundraiser and a collossal invitation to trouble. How many wrist bands have you seen in 17th century pub paintings.

Rant over. Thanks for letting me put in my 2 cents.

There's a local High School, a College Prep school, that prides itself on having one of the highest percentages in the nation of graduates going to to get their college degrees. Its graduates usually become doctors and lawyers and other professionals.

But it pays its history teachers and English teachers etc around $30,000 but pays its football coach well over $100,000.

About "casual dress Fridays" or as they're sometimes done here "Hawai'ian shirt Fridays" , I wonder if this institution exists in other countries. Many companies here have extended these Fridays to include the whole week now.

Fine, but be honest -- don't bill something as promoting history & heritage, as many festivals do. The people who say such things generally aren't the ones cleaning up the mess -- it's the underpaid history teachers who do!
